Matt DesSureault: Concept models

The Organic Apparatus for Sustainability:
Nature’s Architecture

How does nature model the architectural framework for sustainability?

The main focus for my thesis is to define how human ingenuity can flourish in sustainable design. Through the implementation of an organic apparatus, contemporary science can produce sustainable architecture without degrading from habitual lifestyles. Dealing with the most crucial component of the built environment, the redesigning and restructuring of a modern dwelling will exemplify how the precision of a design with nature’s genius will prove sustainable accomplishments.
Nature serves as the main area of precedent research by providing adaptive solutions that are defined by the reclamation of matter, biological forms and functions, and utilizations of energies. When we come to the research basis for sustainability, all of the solutions can be found within nature’s evolution. The evolutions of adaptive solutions in nature are the key components in answering the issues of designing ecologically and sustainably. The intent of analyzing nature is to employ human ingenuity to revolutionize design, building, and construction methods in order to have a benign or positive impact on the natural world through an apparatus of architectural expressions. For many years we have been fighting with design principles to figure out what works in order to accomplish a sustainable building. The idea of creating a sustainable building can be resolved from the theory of nature’s existence becoming the driving design characteristics of a building.
Human ingenuity can dramatically benefit the environment by learning how to design responsibly with nature in order to support the world that supports us. What we take away from nature is only a dictionary for sustainable design characteristics. Using our own human ingenuity, these methods need a structured into an architectural framework that will be the key reference piece that makes sustainability possible in any design project.
